Santa Ana adopted the 2013 California Residential Code, together with Appendices H [Patio Covers] and J [Existing Buildings and Structures]. Santa Ana, Cal., Muni Code § 8-2800. The City amended the 2013 California Residential Code. Santa Ana, Cal., Muni Code ch.8 art. XV Div. 2. 

The City did not require ice barriers in its amended Table R301.2(1) Climatic and Geographic Design Criteria. Santa Ana, Cal., Muni Code § 8-2810. 

Existing Buildings

Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.

The provisions of Appendix J of the adopted 2013 California Residential Code apply to existing residential buildings and structures.
