Overview

The state code deletes Section R905.2.8.5. See 2015 VA Res. Code, Chapter 9, § R905.2.8.5. In other words, there is no drip edge requirement in the residential code.

Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of
construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.
The existing building regulations are based on the 2015 IEBC and IPMC, effective September 4, 2018.
Chapter 11 of the VEBC provides retrofit regulations.
Appendix J of the IRC was not included in the state residential code.
