Monroe, Wisconsin Building Codes

Overview

Monroe adopted a "Building Code of the City of Monroe."  Monroe Code, Title 4, Chapter 1 (accessed 1/6/2013).   Section 4-1-1 of that code provides:

The following chapters of the Wisconsin Administrative Code are hereby adopted by reference: 
– Chapters ILHR 20 through 25 of the Uniform Dwelling Code; 
– Chapters ILHR 50 through 64 of the Building and Heating, Ventilating and Air 
Conditioning Code; 
– Chapter ILHR 70 of the Historic Building Code; 
– Chapters ILHR 81 and 82 of the Plumbing Code; and 
– Chapters IND 160 through 164 of the Existing Buildings Code. (9-20-94).

The above citations are to old versions of the codes.  The modern citations look as follows:

The state residential code only applies to new construction, additions and alterations for buildings constructed after 1980.  The Monroe code indicates that the code applies to alterations and repairs but does not clearly state that it applies to pre-1980 construction.  See Section 4-1-3 of the Monroe Code, Title 4, Chapter 1 (accessed 1/6/2013).
