Overview

The State Code of Florida requires that all municipalities and counties within the state enforce the most current (5th edition, 2014, effective 06/30/15) Florida Building Code, including Building, Residential and Existing Building Codes, at a minimum. Miami Gardens, FL, further amended the state code with additional, more stringent, provisions. Miami Gardens, FL, municipal code § 28-44.

Additional provisions outlined in Sec. 28-45:

"The provisions of the Florida Building Code as applicable to high velocity hurricane zones are hereby incorporated by reference. The Florida Building Code will not be repeated or restated in this chapter except where necessary to provide clarity. The following provisions of the Florida Building Code are hereby adopted and made applicable to the city:

(1)The high velocity hurricane zone roofing requirements with accompanying Roofing Application Standards (RAS) (Florida Building Code § 1512.2). Exception: The prescriptive BUR requirements in RAS 150 shall not be implemented in the county (Florida Building Code RAS 150).

(2)Appendix A—Weight of building materials.

(3)Appendix B—Chapter 9B-52, Florida Standard for Passive Radon-Resistant New Residential Building Construction.
