Ice and Water Shield
Ice/Water Shield to Be Used in Lieu of 15# Felt Paper at Eaves. An ice/water shield is required at the eaves of all roofs above a heated space. For a roof with a pitch from 2/12 to 4/12, the shingle underlayment must be applied in the following manner: Apply a 19" wide strip of underlayment felt parallel with and starting at the top of the ice/water shield and covering the ice/water shield. Over this course, apply 36" wide sheets of underlayment felt, overlapping successive sheets 19". For a roof pitch more than 4/12, apply underlayment per the manufacturer’s installation instructions.
