Brendan L. Labbe, Bob Purcell, and Meghan Steines will provide a refresher and in-depth dive into the principle of matching for both novice and veteran claims professionals. On its face, matching is a rather simple principle, but in application, matching presents difficult claims questions on a weekly basis. Every year, new court decisions are issued addressing whether matching is covered and the application thereof. The presenters will elucidate this opaque topic with a national survey, plenty of examples, and review of policy language, statutes, regulations, and case law. After the webinar, attendees will be able to:
- apply the principle of matching to questions faced during both day-to-day claims handling and unique, complex claims;
- compare the existence and application of regulations and case law throughout the country;
- navigate differing policy language to understand courts’ findings of coverage, and no coverage, for matching; and
- understand the interplay between policy provisions, case law and regulations that underlie the principle of matching.
