The course “Personal Auto Policy: The Fundamentals” is designed to familiarize adjusters with a general overview of the personal auto policy, including liability coverage, medical payments coverage, uninsured and underinsured motorists coverage, coverage for damage to your auto, duties after loss or accident, and termination of the insured-insurer relationship.
The module is presented by William Barnhart, CPCU, JD, Counsel at State Farm Group, and Patrick Cloud, JD, Attorney at Heyl Royster. The instructors review the liability coverage provisions set forth in the standard auto policy, investigate issues arising out of claims for medical payments coverage, analyze common problems related to UM/UIM coverage, examine the process for handling property damage claims, and explore the insured’s contractual duties following a loss.
After completing the course, the attendee will be able to outline the nature of liability insurance; define the duty to defend and the duty to indemnify; explain what is an exclusion and describe the two-part test for enforceability of exclusions; understand the limits of liability; explain Personal Injury Protection (PIP); describe Medical Payments coverage (Med Pay) and the common issues in Med Pay coverage; know Uninsured and Underinsured Motorists coverage (UM/UIM); list vehicles exempted from UM/UIM coverage; define stacking and describe anti-stacking mechanisms; explain set-off provisions; define the issues arising with comprehensive and collision coverage; outline the coverage for damage to your auto; describe the insured’s duties after loss or accident; and outline how the insured-insurer relationship may be terminated.
The course provides fundamentals for insurance professionals in the liability arena.
