The “Coverage Evaluations Under the CGL Policy” course teaches insurance
professionals a five-step process for coverage analysis. The module is presented by Dan
Kohane J.D., Senior Member at Hurwitz Fine P.C., and Crystal Uebelher J.D. C.P.C.U.,
Divisional Assistant Vice President at Great American Insurance Group.
The course begins with an explanation of Kohane’s Coverage Evaluation Formula which
can be used as a step-by-step process for going through a coverage evaluation. After
discussing what can be found in Declaration Pages, the course proceeds to examine
“What’s In,” or what grants of coverage are provided in typical Commercial General
Liability policies. Next, the presenters examine “What’s Out,” i.e. the Coverage A
Exclusions. The course goes on to explore the impact of compliance with policy
conditions, then moves on to common coverage endorsements. Finally, the course
concludes with an examination of Coverage B and a discussion of Personal and
Advertising Injury.
After completing the course, the attendee will be able to analyze coverage under a
CGL policy using a step-by-step process; glean helpful information from declaration
pages; identify policies using the form number and edition date; answer what is covered
using who / what / where / when / why questions; analyze when a claim falls under
exclusions such as Contractual Liability and Workmanship & Recall; identify when policy
conditions such as Notice and Cooperation have been violated; examine exclusions such
as Ongoing Operations and Designated Professional Services; and enumerate what is
covered and not covered under Personal and Advertising Injury. The course is designed
for insurance professionals working in the area of property and casualty adjusting.
