“Valued Policy Laws Explained” covers the fundamentals and intricacies of valued policy laws. The course begins with an analysis of the history of the valued policy laws, which provides a backdrop for understanding the statutory language and court interpretations of the language.
The program covers the types of policies for which the laws apply and those for which they do not apply. This is followed up by an examination of applicable perils and property. Next, the course examines the effect of the laws on total and partial losses. Finally, the program reviews the impact of various policy provisions and practices in establishing amounts owed.
The course examines laws specific to each state and contrasts those with laws in other jurisdictions. This is significant as there is often little case law on this topic in any one state.
After completing the course, the student should be able to spot all significant issues arising in residential and commercial disputes regarding the application of valued policy laws. The course is designed for practitioners in the area of first-party property insurance coverage and litigation.
