Barre, Vermont, adopted the Vermont Fire and Building Safety Codes as the city residential code. Code Vt. R. 28-070-001 § 2 (adoption of national codes), Code Vt. R. 28-070-001 § 3 (Life Safety Code amendments), and Barre, VT, Muni. Code §4-3. Note that the state enforces the amended version of the Life Safety Code (NFPA 101), specifically the portions that apply to one-and two-family dwellings (chapter 24). 

Existing Buildings

Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.

No adoption of Appendix J from the IRC has been adopted.
