The 2018 North Carolina Residential Code is composed of the 2015 International Residential Code, with North Carolina amendments.
Drip Edges: Section R905.2.8.5 is deleted in its entirety.
Per an email dated December 13, 2019 to PLRB from Bryan Robinson, Chief Building Inspector for the City of Raleigh stated: “We do not require an ice barrier or drip edge in the NC Building Code.” However, the City also clarified that, “with regard to the drip edge, note that the team at IBHS believe it helps to prevent wind uplift at edges of roofs. So they recommend it and would like to see it.”
