Overview
Port Deposit MD, follows the Building Codes as outlined in the Maryland Building Performance Standards (COMAR 05.02.07). Port Deposit, MD Municipal Code § 2.0 (adopt). Existing Buildings
Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of
construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.
In the amendments, the county does NOT adopt Appendix J as part of the code. Maryland Building Performance Standards (COMAR 05.02.07) § 02.04 A1 (adopt IBC), § 02.04 B (amend IBC), § 02.04 A2 (adopt IRC), § 02.04 C (amend IRC). Appendix J provides guidance on existing buildings.
A building permit shall not be required for repairs to existing buildings or structures, provided that no structural changes or modification are involved.
Automatic residential fire sprinkler systems shall not be required for additions, repairs or alterations to existing buildings that are not already provided with automatic fire sprinkler systems.
