Overview

Wisconsin rapids adopted the Wisconsin Uniform Residential Code (aka Wisconsin Administrative Code SPS Chapters 320 to 325) with amendments.  While the state code applies to new construction, additions and alterations for buildings constructed after 1980, the amendments broadly extend the application to additions, remodeling, and alterations of existing buildings.  Wisconsin Rapids Municipal Code, Ch. 14. Building Code, § 14.06(2). 

Likewise, Wisconsin rapids adopted the Wisconsin Commercial Building code (aka Wisconsin Administrative Code SPS Chapters 350-369) with amendments.  Wisconsin Rapids Municipal Code, Ch. 14. Building Code, § 14.06(1). 

Wisconsin adopted the 2009 IBC.  It applies to "code applies to all public buildings and places of employment" with certain exception.  See Wis. Admin. Code § 361.02. The Code defines "public buildings" and "places of employment." Id.

Additional requirements and amendments can be found in Wis. Admin. Code § 362.

The highest authority is reserved by the state. See Wis. Admin. Code § 361.03. However, local jurisdictions may adopt stricter standard that are not in conflict. Id.  Furthermore, local jurisdiction, including counties, may take on inspection and review responsibilities.  See Wis. Admin. Code § 361.60

Wisconsin adopted the 2009 IEBC, subject to the modifications specified in chapter SPS 366.

Also, in Wisconsin Rapids Municipal Code, Ch. 14. Building Code, § 14.13:

"Wisconsin Administrative Code SPS Chapter 305, Chapters 320 through 325, Chapters 360-367; the State Electrical Code SPS 316; the State Plumbing Code SPS 381-387, 390, 391; the State Flammable Liquids Code SPS 310; and the Well Construction and Pump Installation NR 812 are hereby adopted by reference and the building inspector and/or
his/her designee shall enforce the provisions thereof. Any violation of said codes or amendments thereto shall constitute a violation of this code, whether unlawful building alteration, installation, moving or construction involved is specifically covered by other provisions of this code or not, and shall render the violator liable to the penalties
contained herein. (MC#1145)"
