Information dealing with Java Runtime Environments:
For the PLRB/LIRB Web site to work properly, a Java Runtime Environment must be in place. The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) can be downloaded for free from Sun Microsystems located at http://www.sun.com. (Note: often times, the in-house IT staff will prohibit users from downloading software. If that is the case with your company, you may have to take out a ticket with your help desk.)
You can check to see if you have Java loaded by using 'Test your Java Virtual Machine (JVM)' from the Sun Microsystems Web site located here.
You can check manually to see if you have Java loaded and which version of Java you are using. You do this by clicking on Tools > Internet Options in your Microsoft Internet Explorer Web browser. Then click on the 'Advanced' tab. About halfway through the list of items, you will see 'Java (Sun)' with a version number directly underneath (See figure 1).

Make sure that there is a checkmark next to 'Use JRE #.#.#_## for <applet> (requires restart)'
Make note of the version you are using for the PLRB IT staff. Please check below for known incompatability issues:
JRE 1.3.#_## - No known incompatabilities
JRE 1.4.#_## - Known problems with PLRB/LIRB Web services
JRE 1.5.#_## - No known incompatabilities
JRE 1.6.#_## - No known incompatabilities
SDK 2 - Known problems with PLRB/LIRB Web services
Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM) also will work with the PLRB/LIRB Web site. However, Microsoft VM will no longer be supported by Microsoft as of December 31, 2007. You can check manually to see if you have Microsoft loaded. You do this by clicking on Tools > Internet Options in your Microsoft Internet Explorer Web browser. Then click on the 'Advanced' tab. About halfway through the list of items, you will see 'Microsoft VM' (See figure 2).
